After attaining his degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. McKenna completed residencies in general surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati and in plastic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also completed special plastic surgery training at the Eastern Virginia Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia, and at Stanford Medical Center in Stanford, California.

Dr. Butterfield received a Bachelor of Science degree at Duke University. She also studied Fine Art and initially considered a career as a medical artist. She spent two years afterwards, studying pediatric immunology. She then received her Doctorate of Medicine in 1996 from the Medical College of Ohio, finishing in the top 10%. For this achievement she received the high honor of an election into the medical honors society, Alpha Omega Alpha. She attended the University of Cincinnati for her integrated residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery, completing 3 years of general surgery training and 3 years of plastic surgery training. It was during this training that she finally was able to unite her love of science and her artistic skill.

She has pursued additional training in cosmetic surgery, and has completed an aesthetic fellowship with Drs. Baker and Stuzin of the prestigious Plastic Surgery Associates of Miami, Florida. She has operated with Drs. Hester and Nahai, nationally recognized experts in midface lifting and "vertical scar" breast reductions. She has also studied with Dr. Oscar Ramirez, another nationally recognized expert in endoscopic midface rejuvenation.
